T&D Associates have been recognized by Global Competition Review in the annual GCR Awards ceremony that took place in Washington, DC on March 24, 2026. The GCR Awards recognize the most high-profile antitrust and competition cases from the previous year, as well as the world's leading antitrust lawyers, economists and enforcers.
The Synopsys/Ansys case, in which T&D acted as the PRC antitrust counsel for Synopsys, won the Merger Control Matter of the Year – Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa award. This award honors creative, strategic and innovation competition work for a client on a landmark merger matter in Asia-Pacific, the Middle East or Africa.

The T&D team, led by managing partner Dr. John Yong REN and consisted of partner Karen Mei YANG, senior associates Alex Jie LIU and Schiffer Mengmeng SHI, etc., successfully assisted Synopsys in securing the antitrust approval in China within the expected timeline.
The $35 billion transaction attracted significant attention within the industry. It is the first conditionally approved case since the implementation of the new call-in mechanism for transactions that do not meet the mandatory pre-merger filing thresholds. It also involves Electronic Design Automation (EDA), considered to be among the most critical and complex products in the semiconductor sector. Through the joint efforts of Synopsys and the counsel teams, Synopsys received SAMR’s approval 12 months after filing.
The deal once again highlighted T&D’s ability to handle significant and complex high-profile merger filings, and T&D’s professional advice and expertise were highly praised by the client in this case.
We are pleased to share this achievement with all our valued clients and precious friends, and will remain committed to providing the highest-quality legal services to support our clients.
